What do you get if you take Ohio based space-rock improvisational specialists Quarkspace and cult comic book artist Matt Howarth and lock them away in a rehearsal room together for a few weeks? The answer is Node In Peril, a beautiful trippy little album with accompanying comic book that is a must for spaceheads everywhere.
The story is a straightforward one of organic space ships, eco-terrorism and Jack The Ripper that is told in simple black and white cartoon cartoon strip and expanded on by Quarkspace's distinctive brand of post Ozrics' instrumental spaceiness. The music is not hard to listen to and isn't exactly deep or thought provoking but it makes for a perfect late night relaxation session after a stressful day
If your familiar with Quarkspace’s Spacefolds series of albums (currently on it's 8th installment), then the music here will hold no surprises, guitarist Chet Santia is on fine form and the rhythm section of Stan Lyon and Paul Williams are as tight as ever and kick the whole caboodle along in fine style.
Node In Peril is in short a damn fine effort and worthy of a place in the CD rack of any discerning space rocker.
