I'm always surprised at how little recognition this band receives here at PE or anywhere for that matter. Truly, one of the best and most original progressive metal/hard rock bands ever.
This is probably my favorite of theirs, although Nothingface is a close 2nd and gets more votes from most other fans. Dimension Hatross combines the heaviness of earlier works, but adds the experimental, progressive parts explored in full on later albums.
The disc is suppose to be a concept album based on alien and human interaction, but i'm not entirely sure on the whole story of it. Concept or not, the music itself is a work of art. Denis d'Amour's aka “Piggy” (RIP) unique chords and riffing are in full effect throughout. He was truly one of the most underrated and exceptional guitar players of his time. The rhythm section of Michel “Away” Langevin on drums and Jean-Yves “Blacky” Theriault on bass are solid players as well. Vocalist Denis “Snake” Belanger has a very unique way of singing throughout. Almost like if Peter Hammill decided to join a progressive metal band is the best way for me to describe it!
Clearly this band was overlooked and underappreciated in the world of progressive metal. It’s a shame too, because this is a great disc in a line of many, and one of my favorites of all time. If you're ever bored with the usual metal/hard rock out there today, progressive or not, check these guys out. You may find a gem of a band like I did.
