Finally, a new album from A Triggering Myth. Gentlemen Eddy and Drumheller, which arranged, wrote and performed (keyboards and guitars) with the help of guests: Michael Manring – bass, Scott McGill - electric and acoustic guitars, Vic Stevens - drums & percussion, Akihisa Tsuboy - violin did it again, that is, made an interesting album
Though this time, to my ears, they’re more into the jazzy vein, mind you that’s not a bad thing. I was just eagerly awaiting some new approach to prog music. I was very pleased with some of their former work, on just that account. They dared, they tried new angles and with great success. Dont get me wrong, I kinda like this album. It’s just ...well the thing is the music sounds like something I’ve heard before (Jerry Goodman & Jan Hammer) many years ago.
That said, I think they are all excellent musicians. And the delivery is top notch, but I just cant relate to this album as I could their former works. I might be an old sentimental, but I really liked their excursions (on the former albums) into the strange, the new, the untrodden territory.
Conclusion: A fine album from A Triggering Myth but not the essential album from these guys. Try their former albums, before this one. On the other hand, if you are new to this band, well try them out! You might like what you hear!
Oh, let me mention the superb cover art! Just brilliant!
