From the fabulous (and fairly new) prog record label Progress Records hailing from Sweden comes the remastered version of Galleon’s Mind Over Matter, originally released in 1998. Galleon has quite a fine back-catalogue of seven great albums. Galleon started out as a Rush influenced trio in the late eighties, however they soon became a foursome and their first outing Lynx saw the light of day in 1992.
Mind Over Matter is very symphonic and very well played, and although inspirations (supposedly) came from Yes, ELP, Rush and Genesis I think that there are more than a few hints to Pallas and IQ Still GALLEON are very capable of realizing their own ideas and as many other bands from said label, they are brilliant musicians.
With 5 tracks in all, clocking in at approx. 65 min., this album is filled with deliciously fine prog music, plenty of time signatures and beautiful themes for any prog fan to sink his (or her) teeth into. I’m especially fond of the last (and longest) track on this fine album: “The Wanderer.” It starts out with some acoustic guitars and soothing vocal (long
gone are the days when you detected a Nordic accent.) Oh, and there is a beautiful flute (keyboard?) part. 4 and a half minutes into this song. The drums comes creeping along with some fine keys and guitars (though still in the relaxed mode) and yes my prog friends there is mellotron. Well, actually this album, holds just about anything you could ask for in superb prog music!
Now, I havent heard the initial album, but this remastered version is just brilliant; every instrument clear as a bell! So how come you haven’t heard these guys, you ask?! Well, I dont know, but I promise you, once you hear them you wanna hear more! And there are plenty albums to choose from. And please do check out Progress Records other artists as they seem to have a golden ear for real talent and fine progressive music!
