Scott Marrow is a solo artist from Lake Worth, Florida who has released his first solo album on White Room records. Unfortunately, that’s about all I have to go on from the information he sent me and his Myspace page. Since there are no other musicians listed, I believe he plays all of the instruments on this CD, which consist of guitars, bass, drums and innovative keyboards/electronics.

The music here reminds me of the more inventive pop music that’s popular today. Bands like Modest Mouse and Sparklehorse came to mind immediately. Scott’s music may have a slightly more frantic edge but if you’re interested in that scene his music may be something to investigate. Although there are 9 songs on the disc, I would classify it as an EP. The total time is only about 18 and a half minutes. Not exactly progressive rock standards but then again you won’t have much room to get bored when the tunes are done so quickly.

While I wasn’t totally floored by this, I did find it enjoyable and I thought the weird electronic embellishments really gave the music a nice edge. Might not be something for everyone but for readers here who aren’t afraid to try out a little quirky pop/punk/postrock stuff, this is a fun little release. Hopefully the title of this one doesn’t apply to Mr. Marrow and he has a winner on his hands.
