The long awaited new album from UVU is a perfect mach when it comes to psych-space rock.

Well, I bought all their albums in one take, which I’m very happy I did, because it’s the perfect way to get into this amazing band (while I wait for the new Man album). They play kind of a mix between the late 70’s prog-space-rock bands & the “new” sound of today. This is by all means a great sounding band with an excellent sound.

So, what we got here is a “modern” sounding space-rock-jam-band that plays like the bands of the 70’s, but still with so much power and sound of their own. They have a unique sound, with great and powerful vocals. Spacey sounding guitars, with riffs & soloing beyond your wildest dreams. Keyboards are kind of “Floydish”, very passionate, dreamy (ala Floyd’s A Saucerful Of Secrets period) and played with great skill. In fact the whole band shines, in their great musician-ship. I have not heard this kind of space-psych-rock, since the great heydays of Man-Doors-Floyd etc. and Eloy (the progressive side of UVU). The reason I think they sound a bit like Man is they sound like they had a lot of fun recording it and because they have that Man-flow, throughout the whole album. With quirky, “spacey” lyrics delivered with great conviction and great skill.

A powerful, welcome release from a great band, with a unique sound and a very varied instrumentation. Also it sounds great and sounds like they had a lot of fun recording it. So will you; have a lot of fun and a possibility to dream back to the days when bands sounded great, and recorded music for the love of it. So is UVU, great in all aspect of the word. Please do check’m out, they may just be you cup of space-progressive-rock, with a twist. So if you like yours truly love and admire bands that have a sound beyond the more mainstream, Shadow of the Sun, is a great and wonderful “pick of the day”.
