On this mostly ambient/ darkwave thang by Robin Taylor (under his cognomen X Position) some shit from two decades ago (thus the Project 85’ moniker) is given a technological facelift. Taylor claims the period as a creative zenith for him, and that the existing hardware of the era meant that a lot of ideas were either under-realized or went by the wayside. Many avenues are taken here, from the strange, lost guitar vamping on “Svaneklint I” to the creepy “Finanslovsforslag”, based on monosyllabic vocal samples and spare percussion. Cuts nine and ten feature the contribution of live drummer Mads Hansen.
A recording so reliant on sampling technology as this would have indeed been cost prohibitive for a starving musician back then. Was it worth the wait? You decide.
