Painted Veil is a short EP-type album which showcases two songs, “Painted” and “Veil”. It is the second album by Lost Detour, a band that has been around for only a few years, yet has reasonably good talent.

While this is your standard "Modern Metal", the band has an interesting vocal style, jumping from "cookie monster" to sweet and clear in one beat. The music is good, but not substantially different from what everyone else is doing in the current metal scene...crunchy guitars, strong drumming, etc. I liked “Veil” more than “Painted” because the music is sweeter on the second song.

I have not heard Lost Detour's debut album Cause and Effect, but their style seems to fit within the parameters of modern metal. I didn't find very many elements of prog here, but the album might appeal to younger listeners who enjoy the newer stuff. I was not overly excited about it, but then, I prefer more texture and creativity in my metal.
