Gordon Giltrap, one of UK´s finest acoustic guitar players had a stunning debut with his fine album Visionary. This album Perilous Journey brings even further his obvious talent for song-writing, even though this is instrumental. Gordon has several brilliant musicians to get things flowing: Simon Philips on drums and Rod Edwards on keys, John G. Perry on bass. Add to that a fine brass section plus some very well laid string section. Giltrap´s music is very finely tuned, built upon his excellent acoustic guitaring. The compositions show tendency to the world of folk but there are some hints to prog music as well. With this fine cast of musicians the music builds into some fine many-layered pictures. Well, it’s sort of Alan Parsons project meets Leo Kottke. And I’ll tell you right now, all you hopefully to be, guitar players out there, Giltrap is a master of his trade so prepare to set your guitar on fire! On the other hand, listen to this fabulous album, learn his tricks, go search for the ultimate acoustic trimmings. "Heartsong" is a fine piece to start with, it’s brilliant! Oh and there are bonus tracks. Try out last track: "Guitar & piano demo´s" which really gets you into the mode of Giltrap his ideas and expertise! GREAT STUFF!
