French quartet of 2 guitars, stick bass and drums, playing all instrumental music that is akin to the KC Discipline period sound… one guitar is picking or soloing while the other is chording.
The music on Rage is simple yet very effective. It is spare, non dense or heavy handed yet progressive and fresh. All the songs are rhythmic and mid-tempo with the two guitars and stick weaving a fine texture of melody and accompaniment.
What I like most about Rage is that every song conveys a positive and uppy feel as opposed to a brooding or heavy feel. Why this is? Maybe the spareness and space, or the choice of chords and notes or the guitar tone which has a bright and ringing quality. Probably all these things. In short, this is a wonderful guitar album and all of it is a breath of fresh air.
Rage is on the Cuneiform Records label. Philharmonie has released 4 albums and disbanded in 1997, but recorded one final album in 1999 and again on the Cuneiform label.
