This album was released in the US as 'One Of Those Days In England' and it is the extended track of that title which makes the album one of Harper's best.
Combining an elegaic view of a lost England with savage political comment, the track meanders through several themes and variations, all highly tuneful and full of idiosyncatic musicianship and precisely realised mood changes.
Paul and Linda McCartney sing backing vocals, but don't let that put you off. The rest of the album contains, well, love songs really, although as is so often the case with Harper 'love songs' are songs about the end of love. 'Cherising The Lonesome' is one of his best songs.
Original copies of the album contained the track 'Watford Gap' which is about a cafe.
The track was replaced with 'Breakfast With You', when the cafe in question complained (the song was not complimentary). Neither track is any good, so don't worry. I've not given the track listing because it varies depending on which version you buy.
**PE added the one that is listed at Amazon, btw**
